There is something special about photographing families at Cannon Beach. Maybe it's the salty air, the endless stretch of sand, or the way children instantly forget the camera and simply start exploring. Whatever the reason, the Oregon coast has a way of inviting families to slow down, laugh together, and simply enjoy being present.

This recent Cannon Beach family session was filled with everything that makes photographing families such a joy—barefoot little feet running through the sand, genuine laughter, warm embraces, and the beautiful in-between moments that often become the most treasured photographs.

One of my favorite things about family photography is that it doesn't have to be perfectly posed to be beautiful. In fact, some of the most meaningful images happen when families are simply interacting with one another. A child reaching for mom's hand, siblings chasing waves, parents sharing a quiet smile while watching their children play—those are the moments that tell your family's story.

Cannon Beach is one of my favorite locations for family photography on the Oregon coast because it offers such a timeless backdrop. The soft coastal light, dramatic shoreline, rolling waves, and iconic scenery create an environment that feels peaceful without distracting from what matters most—your family and your connection with one another.

Children especially thrive here. Instead of asking them to sit still, I encourage them to explore, run, collect shells, splash near the water's edge, and simply be kids. That freedom creates authentic expressions and natural interactions that can never be forced.

My approach to photography has always been centered around preserving memories rather than creating perfection. Years from now, I hope these images remind this family not only of what they looked like, but of what this season of life felt like—the laughter, the adventure, the closeness, and the simple joy of spending an evening together along the Oregon coast.
